Good morning everyone, my name's Maddie, and I had a question about a show called Meb and Me. It is by Wreath of Life publishing, from what I remember it had the whole name and the dove fly across the screen, can't find any official postings online about it. The show was very important to me, I also loved the books so much! I would need to get the books and video tapes back from my family home back in Minster, but I'll talk about what I remember from the books and show here. Figured if this Angel Hare show was by the same publishing company I might be able to find more info on it.
My Grandma gave me the books, and I believe the books started in the 1900's, back when the Industrial Revolution had taken off. The books were chapter books with pictures inside in black and white. The books were about a farmer named Meb (sometimes called Angel Mebahel) who lived in a busy farm (like corn, soy, cows, chickens, sheep, even rabbits sometimes) with her little brother Frank. Others would stop by to help on the farm like Meb's sister from the local convent, Sister Gabrielle and her friend Father Francis, and even cousins from the big city would drop by, like cousin Zag (some sort of officer or something) and Frannie, his deputy. Meb owned the family farm and would teach about plants and animals, and would sometimes teach about Bible verses like about mustard seeds being small but growing to the biggest trees, that working together is important, typical kids stuff. They also were a Catholic family attended Mass on Sundays, that whole thing, Meb was in the choir with Frank and when the family were in town they were in the choir too. The tv series my grandparents recorded, it was still Meb on the farm, followed the books decently well, though they focused more on the farm vs the church aspect, though there were some biblical lessons thrown in. The TV show added a letters from fans section too that Frank would read since Meb was usually busy with some farm chore to handle it. I think the tv show was from the 50's, kinda looked like Hannah Barbara cartoons of the time, and they changed the human designs from the books to a more anthro look, example Meb being a lop earred rabbit lady in overalls with wings on the back and Frank being a little border collie with a checkered shirt, always wore his gold crucifix necklace.
Here's where it gets weird. I know that Meb was talking to the viewer or reader as kids media does, but for some reason I swear she was talking to me. Like, when I read the book the book had my name in it, not like written at the front where any kid would have their name to not lose their book, but would have it in the text, like one was about Meb talking and introducing herself, and she said it was "great to meet you Maddie. Always great to have extra hands on the farm." In the show the same thing, like, "It's great to finally have you hear me and see me Maddie," stuff like that, like the books and video were connected somehow. She always seemed to have a lesson that tied to the problems I faced as a kid growing up on the family farm myself with my aging grandparents (if you wanna know more details about that feel free to ask, might need a separate post).
So I can't find anything else about the show or books anywhere, but I wanna find anything else anyone might know, does anyone recognize the show/book series? Do the characters in Wreath of Life do crossovers show to show? Let me know what you know or if you got any more questions, and like Meb always said, "Y'all always be welcome round here, get some rest now pumpkin, and make sure you're up when the cock crows y'hear? Lord's work ain't ever done."
Oh, I think one of my early elementary school friends watched that show. Or maybe I saw it on the TV during Sunday school? Man, now my memories are getting all jumbled up.
